Circles over the Years

Started in 1973 my Circles have provided a format for exploring space and form. The concept initially was a centered viewer with surrounding environment depicted via fences and posts. It later morphed into a Yin/Yang duality with side-by-side contrasting panels where the circle and square are the same area but differ in apparent size.

Most are pastels on paper, and a few are oil pastel on paper (64 in total). Three are airbrush acrylic on paper, and the paintings are acrylic on hardboard. The first six are samples of pastel on paper with single circle. The other media follow.

I cannot escape the tug of simple duality in life, and so have continued to pursue a visual solution that attempts to resolve it.

Below is a ten-work sample of 32 pastel and oil pastel drawings done in 1996-97, where the area dimension of each side was calculated to be the same. That condition forced the width and height to be different.
